This is the recipe for simple dumplings from scratch I’ve ever found. If you need some dumplings in a hurry, this quick recipe takes about 20 minutes total time. The ingredients are minimal and you should already have all that you need to make these easy dumpling dough.
First, you need the following ingredients: 2 cups of flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, 1 tablespoons baking soda, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and 1 cup of warm water.
Start by combining flour, salt, and baking soda. Next, add oil and water (I like to mix well these two liquids with a whisk in a cup first.) and mix until smooth. Add just a tad more water, drop by drop, until dough is soft and not dry at all.
Bring broth or chicken soup to a boil and add dumpling dough one spoonful at a time. Reduce heat and cook an additional 4-5 minutes. (If you are using a small pot, you may have to cook dumplings a few at a time.) Be careful not to make spoonfuls too big; the dumplings will get swell while cooking.
Either serve dumplings with chicken soup or in broth. Garnish if desired with fresh chives or parsley flakes.
